Law Five states, “Each match is controlled by a referee who has full Authority to enforce the Laws of the Game in connection with the match.”
This means that the referee, as the officiating authority on the field, has the final say on all calls on the soccer field. An AYSO referee is trained using FIFA’s Laws of the Game and the U.S. Soccer referee guidelines; to make the best call in his/her judgement and looks out for the safety of all players on the field.
According to the Laws of the Game, “Decisions will be made to the best of the referee’s ability according to the Laws of the Game and the “spirit of the game” and will be based on the opinion of the referee who has the discretion to take appropriate action within the framework of the Laws of the Game.”
Arguing or disputing with a referee over a call is strongly discouraged.
